- All existing 2G services, faster packet switched data transfer rates, video calling and video streaming.
- What is the advantage of 3G packet switched data?
- Packet switched data on 3G has potentially faster transfer rates. Also, they will inter-operate seamlessly with existing GPRS and EDGE services.
- What does video calling offer?
- A circuit switched call with audio-visual facilities.
- Will video calling be available on 2G?
- No. Video calling will not be available on 2G.

- MTN will launch video-enhanced versions of MTN LiveTV and other video on demand services.
- Which MTN priceplans will be able to make use of the 3G network?
- All existing MTN PayMonthly price plans will be able to make use of the 3G network as long as it is activated on the subscribers account.
- Are the business rules and tariffs different between the 2G and 3G network?
- Yes. The Video calls have a differentiated charge than the voice calls
- Are all products and services currently available on the MTN 2G network available on the 3G network?
- Yes. All products and services on the 3G network will be billed at their current 2G tariffs, regardless of the network used by the customer to access that service.
- Are SMS and MMS available on the 3G network?
- Is MTNLoaded available on the 3G network?
- What will happen if either of the two parties in a video call move outside 3G network coverage?
- If either of the two communicating parties move outside 3G network coverage while on a video call, the call will be terminated.
- Is international voice and data calling and roaming available on the 3G network?
- Is voice calling (on- and off-net) available on the 3G network?
- Is WAP available on the 3G network?
- Is Me2U available on the 3G network?
- Will voice calls be seamlessly handed over between the 2G and 3G network?
- Yes. This means that when a customer using a 3G cellphone initiates a voice call inside 3G network coverage and while on the call moves outside 3G network coverage, the call will be handed over from the 2G to the 3G network in-call. The same applies to a voice call initiated on the 2G network and handed over to the 3G network.
- Will packet switched data connections be handed over between the 2G and 3G networks without the call being terminated.
- What will the customer experience when handing over a packet switched data connection between the 2G and 3G network?
- When a packet switched data connection is handed over between the 2G and 3G network the customer will experience either an increase or decrease in the data transmission speed depending on whether the data connection is handed over to the 3G network or 2G network, respectively.
- Will the customer experience a data transfer delay when a packet switched data connection is handed over between the 2G and 3G networks?
- Yes. When a packet switched data connection is handed over between the 2G and 3G networks the customer might experience a typical data transfer delay of 10 to 15 seconds.
- Are the business rules and tariffs different for packet switched data depending on the network used?
- No. Current packet switched data business rules and tariffs will apply regardless of the network used.
- What is required for a successful video call to be established and sustained on the MTN network?
- A video call can only be successfully established and sustained between two communicating parties, if they are both within a 3G network coverage area and using video call-enabled 3G cellphones.
- What will happen, if a person (caller) using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone inside 3G network coverage, tries to make a video call to another person (receiver) also using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone inside 3G network coverage, and the receiver’s 3G cellphone is setup to divert video calls to another destination that does not support video calling?
- The call will be terminated.
- What will happen, if a person (caller) using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone inside 3G network coverage, tries to make a video call to another person (receiver) also using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone but is outside 3G network coverage, and the receiver does not have a video mailbox?
- An error message will be played and the video call will be terminated.
- What will happen, if a person (caller) using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone inside 3G network coverage, on a video call to another person (receiver) also using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone inside 3G network coverage and whilst on the video call, the caller or receiver moves out of 3G network coverage?
- The video call will be terminated.
- What will happen, if a person (caller) using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone outside 3G network coverage, tries to make a video call to another person (receiver)?
- The video call will not be setup.
- What must be loaded on the customer’s profile (subject to the customer using a video call-enabled 3G cellphone) to allow the making and received of video calls?
- What are the video calls tariffs for postpaid subscribers?
- Video calls will be charged at the rate of 1:10 1 video minute = 10 voice minutes for in bundle minutes. Once inclusive minutes have been used the video call is charged at €0.43 / min
- Will MTN introduce a new class of SIM?
- Yes. MTN will introduce a new class of SIM, known as a Universal SIM (USIM), with the launch of their 3G Network. This USIM complies with the third generation standards, and also has improved functionality.
- Can the USIMs be used together with 2G cellphones to make/receive voice/data (circuit and packet switched) calls and send/receive SMS, MMS and USSD?
- When a USIM is activated on a prepaid customer’s profile for the first time, what will be automatically be provisioned on the customer profile?
- What must a 3G terminal (cellphone, data card, etc), supplied by MTN, always be accompanied with, except in cases when the customer already has an active MTN USIM?
- If MTN has a 3G Roaming Agreement with a foreign network then will all existing 2G network rules applicable to MTN customers roaming on foreign networks (i.e. the products for International Calling and International Roaming are loaded to their profiles) apply to the 3G network?
- If MTN has a 3G Roaming Agreement with a foreign network then will MTN Customers using 3G cellphones when roaming internationally be able to make/receive voice/data calls (circuit and packet switched) and send/receive SMS/MMS/USSD?
- If MTN has a 3G Roaming Agreement with a foreign network, will MTN Customers using 3G cellphones (video call enabled) when roaming internationally and the roaming network allows video calling, be able to make/receive local and international video calls?
- Yes, but MTN will only implement international video calling from Cyprus in the near future i.e. a roaming customer will not be able to receive a video call from MTN Cyprus.
- Will a customer with a 2G SIM still be able to make/receive voice/data (circuit and packet switched) calls and send/receive SMS/MMS/USSD if the international operator has a 2G network?
- Is it possible that the foreign network could charge more for all of its 3G services than its 2G services?
- Yes. Customers who wish to restrict their foreign roaming to 2G-only networks should effect this limitation manually on their handsets (i.e. by setting the handset to 2G-only operation)
- If the “Network Selection” setting on a customer’s 3G cellphone is set to “Automatic” will any voice/data (circuit and packet switched) call or SMS/MMS/USSD initiated/sent from the 3G cellphone, whilst inside 3G network coverage automatically log onto the 3G network whether the customer uses a 2G SIM or USIM?
- Yes. 3G takes precedence over 2G.
- If the “Network Selection” setting on a customer’s 3G cellphone is set to “Automatic” and a customer initiates / sends a voice/data (circuit and packet switched) call or SMS/MMS/USSD from a 3G cellphone, whilst inside 2G network coverage but not 3G network coverage, will the 3G cellphone automatically log onto the 2G network, whether the customer uses a 2G SIM or USIM?
- Is the option whether a customer wants to initiate a video or voice call cellphone dependent?
- Yes. The customer can make a video or a voice call by selecting the applicable call option on the 3G cellphone.
- When can a customer make or receive video calls using a 2G SIM or USIM?
- Only when a customer uses a video call-enabled 3G cellphone and is inside 3G network coverage.
