MTN first to launch 3.5G service in Cyprus

MTN says Y’ello to Mobile Broadband

MTN being the first provider to launch the most technologically advanced services introduces yet again the technology that will keep Cyprus high in the World’s telecommunication rank. In a recent press conference MTN announced the commercial launch of the 3.5G technology, otherwise referred to as Mobile Broadband.

3.5G is now here to add to MTN’s “first in Cyprus” long list of innovations. 3.5G is an enhancement to the third generation (3G) technology, which offers faster internet access speeds using HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology.

3.5G download speeds are up to 5 times faster than 3G speeds and has the ability for the time being to receive data of up to 1.8Mbps. The service is ideal for those who are constantly on the move and need an immediate, wireless access to their emails and the internet. At the same time, it secures fast data transfers and enables access to office files through VPN (Virtual Private Network). At present, the service is only available in Nicosia, where there is an increased demand for mobile data communication; however, all cities will be able to enjoy the service in due time.

MTN’s entry in the Cyprus market in September 2004 was the cornerstone of a new era in mobile telecommunications, having launched the most innovative products and services in mobile telephony. It was the first to launch the 3G network, the Mobile Data Card with the Unlimited Data package, Mobile TV and recently the smart solution BlackBerry®.

MTN also presented its Mobile USB Modem, a compact, mobile device, which is compatible with laptops and desktops. This is the first 3.5G Mobile USB Modem to be launched in Cyprus and it stands out for its simplicity in use. The MTN Mobile USB Modem is automatically installed on Windows and Macintosh drivers and offers seamless access through the 3G, 2.5G or 2G network when out of the 3.5G coverage. The device can be found in all MTN shops, in Germanos, Aeliotis and soon through other official distributors.

MTN’s rich service portfolio is designed to serve and facilitate the subscribers’ daily communication needs. “I would like to leave you once again with a promise that our “first in Cyprus” list will continue to grow”, says Bassel Jamaleddine, CEO of MTN.
