ΜΤΝ shoots for charity success MTN is well-known for its support of local charities and seized the opportunity of this weekend’s APOEL-OMONOIA derby to sponsor a unique football moment and raise funds for local charitable foundations, Agia Skepi and Elpida
At half-time in the match, veteran players from each team were invited to take spot kicks at an open goal from the half way line, with prize money from MTN – the main sponsor of APOEL - going to charity. MTN promised prizes of £2.000 for the winner and £1.000 for the runner up, but when the stand-off ended in a 3-all draw (3-3) MTN generously increased its donation to £2.000 each, thus increasing the overall amount of money going to charity. An impressive line-up of veteran players from both teams took part, including APOEL’s Nikos Pantziaras and OMONOIA’s Nicos Pattichis. Speaking about the weekend’s successful event, Mr Bassell Jamaleddine, CEO of MTN Cyprus, was understandably proud of MTN’s key role and drew attention to how the sports industry –and football in particular – can be a leading force in encouraging social responsibility. - ends -
