MTN Cyprus, sponsor of the world high ranked tennis player Marcos Baghdatis and the Mega sponsor of APOEL Nicosia football club, shows once again the company’s support and contribution to the Cypriot athletism. During a press conference that was organized jointly by MTN and the Cyprus Football Association, MTN announced a sponsorship agreement as a Silver Sponsor of the National Football Team of Cyprus, for the preliminary phase of the FIFA World Cup 2010. The MTN Group, Official Sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup that will be held in South Africa, considers that this patronage to sports is part of its commitment to support the development of the communities it operates in. The Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Mr. Bassel Jamaleddine, expressed his satisfaction for the sponsorship agreement and added that the MTN Group has created a long standing tradition in supporting football worldwide as it considers that football is the common language of people around the globe. Finally Mr. Jamaleddine expressed his gratitude for the opportunity given to the MTN to support the National Football Team of Cyprus and be part of the team’s effort to further improve last years impressive performance.
