What is 3.5G / HSDPA?

3.5G is an enhancement on 3G data speeds using HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology.
You can download data up to 5 times faster with 3.5G than with 3G!

The MTN 3.5G service under current optimal conditions can reach a practical data rate of up to 2Mbps (Downlink speed).

What could 3.5G be used for?

  • High speed internet access for laptops and desktops
  • High speed internet browsing on 3.5G compatible mobile handsets
  • Video streaming for MTN LiveTV and content services (video clip downloads)

Where can 3.5G be used?

MTN 3.5G radio network as a first phase will have a strong presence only in Nicosia city.
In the first phase of the launch of this service there will be a total of 50 3.5G enabled radio sites. The plan is to continue increasing the number of sites during 2008 in Nicosia and other major cities.

Sites with the highest demand for internet connection speed have been carefully selected in order to provide 3.5G coverage.

Through extensive MTN statistical tests the following speeds were obtained:

Through the first 3.5G enabled MTN Mobile USB Modem in Cyprus
